Call For Action

The Pythian Club banner and young people

Unusual times calls for community support groups to adapt to the current needs of their community, and that includes us! The Pythian Club at heart are a Youth Organisation dedicated to serving young people, but our underlying passion is helping our community, which is why we have broadened our team to extend that help across a wider scope. Though this change in pace is new and challenging for us, our team has faced it with their usual enthusiasm, selflessness and passion. We know many other projects are keen to support their community in this time. So we’ve teamed up with other organisations such as Mathew 25:40 and the Chayah project, who have been equally as passionate in helping our community in this time of need.

To date, The Pythian Club has responded to 76 requests, including individual requests from community members who have found themselves in a sticky situation with self-isolation and lockdown. The Pythian team completes most of its calls in the morning, unless specifically requested for the afternoon or evening, to give everyone we help the best start to the day possible! We also take care that our volunteers socially distance themselves at each delivery they make to keep everyone safe.

One community member, who is 98 years young and endearingly known as “Shrimp”, had a request sent to us by her very worried daughter. Both were overjoyed to see her shopping being delivered by our lovely Abaina. She has asked us to return weekly until the restrictions are lifted.

We are happy to help anyone in our community, so if you are someone that needs help, or you know someone that could benefit from a little extra support, please get in contact via our Facebook page.

"As I live 300 miles away from my 98 year old Mum, a serious problem arose during the present Covid 19 crisis when her usual helper could no longer shop for her. Xara answered my plea for help on Facebook and Mum now has a volunteer from the club doing a weekly shop for her. Both Xara and Abaina are wonderfully friendly and helpful people. I hope to meet them one day!"
