CPS Drill Music Project
The Pythian Club worked with The Crown Prosecution Service to understand the impacts of drill music on the CPS’ perspective of its producers and listeners.
As with the interview with Kemet FM, the work we have been doing is to investigate Drill music and broaden the understanding of Drill music. This has had historical impacts in teaching the CPS not to use Drill music as evidence against young black people in court.
Part of the Crown Prosecution work we did on 'Drill Music' our very own Nick Federici was mentioned in the Daily Telegraph:
Nick Federici, a youth worker at the Pythian Club, which has taken part in the CPS listening exercise, said there were misconceptions about drill, which was “just the youth expressing themselves.”
“Drill doesn’t cause crime in deprived areas. It’s poverty, it’s envy, it’s so many other things going on, underlying issues,” said Mr Federici.

Headlines from across the country…
Words from our CEO:
Really proud of The Pythian Club team and all the support from our community in regards to our recent project.
We were asked to put together some guidance for the Crown Prosecution Service in respect to Drill Music.
We are pleased to learn that CPS have listened to the views of the community and taken action.
This for us is real change and demonstrates the real impact we can make when we come together.
No longer will artists be labelled and persecuted for promoting an art form without proper evidence.
Some of the team will now be consulting further with CPS and travelling to London to discuss the work.
Well done to all involved and thanks to BBC East Midlands Nottinghamshire Live and Daily Telegraph for covering the story.
TIME IS NOW.
