Leadership Programme

At The Pythian Club, we build up our community by providing opportunities for our young people to thrive. When we see young people engaging in our community activities who demonstrate potential leadership skills, these young people are invited to join our Young Persons’ Leadership Programme enabling them to gain additional skills to enhance their chosen interests or chosen career paths.

Through the Club, our Young Leaders (aged 14 – 17) and Pythian Ambassadors (aged 18-25) are provided with pathways to progression which work to complement their educational curriculum and include e.g. volunteering, work experience, practice placements, sports coaching, mentoring to name just a few. In addition, we provide opportunities for these young people to gain accreditation in e.g. sports coaching qualifications.

Congratulations to one of our Pythian Young Leaders, Justin Colombo who took part in a BBC Radio Nottingham & Notts TV interview discussing the dangers of anti-social behaviour and most importantly what can be achieved with hard work and a positive mindset. Justin progressed in his career and now manages a McDonalds’ store and says he is now “building his legit hustle for him and his family”.

You vs Train Project

Our Young Leaders expressed their concerns regarding the rise in anti-social behaviour on trains, around railway lines and within train stations. The Pythian Club approached British Transport Police (BTP), Network Rail and Nottinghamshire’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to out forward a partnership agreement to help address these issues.

In partnership with BTP, Network Rail, Street Games and VRU, The Pythian Club designed and developed workshops delivered within Nottingham schools to help educate pupils in train safety. Pupils also designed train safety posters displayed at key train stations.

Feedback from schools was extremely positive, with 100% of schools wanting the Club to return to deliver further workshops. And through working at Nottingham Train Station, we have introduced and engaged young people within community activities we run.
