Work experience for Djanogly pupils
The Pythian Club (TPC) were honoured to host pupils from Djanogly City Academy for their work experience earlier in the month.
Following an introduction to CEO, Benjamin Rosser, pupils met with some of The Club’s key strategic partners including Nottingham Fire Service, Nottinghamshire’s Violence Reduction Unit, and Nottinghamshire Police.
Over the 3-day period, pupils experienced a range of activities which included designing and delivering sports sessions, accompanying the Outreach team on community engagement sessions, and even supporting our Secret Garden project (mowing the lawn, cutting the hedges, as well as learning some new bush-craft skills.)
In addition, pupils were trained in creating their LinkedIn profiles which will help them increase their business networks to aid future career opportunities.
Careers Leader, Alexander McCafferty, Djanogly City Academy, commented:
“During Year 10 Work Experience week, 20 of our scholars had the fantastic opportunity to work with The Pythian Club. The Club supported and encouraged the development of our scholars in the workplace. They crafted a programme for our scholars that allowed them to experience continuous professional development from the Police and Fire Service; this actively supported their overall understanding of working practices. They have shown our scholars what it is like to be in a workplace with both community and young people at its heart. These are key principles that we, as an academy, strongly believe in.
This opportunity would not have been possible without the staff of The Pythian Club as well as the support given by NET, who treated the scholars as employees of The Club and allowed them to travel around the city on a complimentary basis as part of their ongoing partnership with The Club.
Overall, our scholars were able to take part in an engaging and enriching week that has aided them significantly in their development. We look forward to future collaborations with The Pythian Club; they are truly making a difference.”
Ben Rosser and the team were very impressed by the calibre of pupils. Ben said:
“The Pythian Club have been working in the community for the last 7 years promoting positive role models in our young people.
We are incredibly proud to have supported these 20 pupils who not only demonstrated attentiveness but also respect and a thirst to learn. As a team we found the time with these pupils incredibly rewarding and enjoyed seeing these young people develop new skills which will stand them in good stead in their future.
Thank you to all our strategic partners whose ongoing support enable us to provide a truly holistic TPC experience.”
The young people showed diligence in completing workbooks recording their experience for prosperity and as well as gaining constructive feedback from the team.
Feedback from the pupils included:
