Enriching activities, healthy meals and half-term fun
The October half-term saw young people across the UK participating in the government’s holiday and food (HAF) programme where they enjoyed enriching activities and healthy meals, benefitting their health, wellbeing and learning.
With school holidays acting as pressure points for some families, the HAF programme is provided free of charge and is available predominately to children from low-income families and those in receipt of free school meals. Since 2022, the HAF programme has provided a staggering 10.7 million HAF days to children and young people in England.
The Pythian Club have been proud to support the delivery of the HAF programme across a number of years thanks to Nottingham Forest Community Trust who run the programme in Nottingham on behalf of Nottingham City Council.
Our sports coaches were delighted to offer multi-sports during the programme at the following 5 venues:
Victoria Primary School, The Meadows
Robin Hood Primary School, Top Valley
Rufford Primary and Nursery School, Bulwell
Mellers Primary School, Radford
Loco Community Centre, Netherfield
Ashley Gorman, Head Sports Coach, The Pythian Club said: “It’s great fun providing an opportunity for the young attendees to engage in various sports, including boxing, tennis, badminton, and fitness activities. Seeing young people participating in sports they love or exploring different sports they’ve previously never tried provides an opportunity for them to find new interests and helps foster a more well-rounded athletic experience.
As an organisation, we also upskill our young leaders, providing them with an opportunity to hone their skills as part of our delivery team. We extend our thanks to Nottingham Forest Community Trust and Loco Community Centre for employing us to deliver this programme.
Should your child wish to participate in the Christmas HAF programme, and if they are eligible for free school meals, your child’s school will send you an e-voucher. Once your e-voucher has been emailed, you can proceed to book your preferred sessions on-line.
